Microsoft Is Working On An Online Streaming Service Similar To Netflix For Xbox Games

Microsoft is building a Netflix-style streaming service for video games that promises to bring 'console-quality gaming to any device'.



Redmond-based company claims that players will be able stream blockbuster movies to their Xbox, laptop or smartphone. Minecraft kitpvp servers



It is unclear whether players will need to pay for each game or whether they will be able to access the entire library for a monthly charge, such as video on-demand.



Microsoft doesn't believe streaming will completely replace dedicated consoles, but the company teased that a new Xbox hardware was in the works.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer also teased the forthcoming video game streaming service which Spencer claims will be able to 'unlock console-quality gaming for any device'



Microsoft's Executive President of Gaming Phil Spencer spoke at the E3 press conference in Los Angeles to reveal its plans to build a cloud-based services.



Spencer said that: "Our cloud engineers are developing a game streaming network that will allow console-quality gaming on all devices.



"We are committed to improving your experience everywhere you want to play - your Xbox, your PC and your phone.'



Cloud Gaming is a way for players to gain access to a huge collection of games without having to download or install each one.



Cloud gaming lets console-quality games to run on devices with less power, such as smartphones. All the heavy lifting is performed on a server , not on the device used by the player.



This is very different from traditional video console games which must process everything on the disk locally and thus require high-end chipsets.

Xbox director Spencer hasn't revealed the date of launch for the service during his presentation, but he has previously teased that Microsoft's game streaming might be launched in 2020.



Rival PlayStation isn't the only one to be interested in game streaming services. Rival PlayStation also offers the option of streaming games to your devices.



PlayStation Now is a subscription service that costs PS12.99 ($20 per month) and allows players to stream over 500 titles to their PlayStation 4 or Windows PC.



After it bought rival services Gaikai, OnLive, and Sony, Sony launched its cloud gaming platform.



However, despite its emphasis on streaming video games, Microsoft has not abandoned its hardware plans.



It is unclear whether players will need to pay for individual titles or the possibility of being able to access the entire library for a single monthly fee, much like Netflix.

Spencer remained tight-lipped on any specifics about the console, however, the executive did reveal that backwards-compatibility with Xbox One games would play significant role for the new hardware.



Eurogamer was told by him: "When you think about the next wave of hardware, many of the massive, big games that people are currently playing will still exist when the next hardware arrives."



You won't see an "2" in the end of all these games because they are trying to guide you to the next version. In the older model of games being shipped playing and moving away - a console switch was a simple step-function.

Microsoft has unveiled Halo Infinite which is a brand new installment in its popular Halo series. It will only be available on Xbox-branded consoles.



Microsoft also showcased an unprecedented number of brand new games to its fans during its E3 presentation.



The company took the wraps off of a selection of exclusive titles, including the latest entries in its Halo and Gears of War series.



Spencer identified the list of games coming out as the company's 'most diverse gaming portfolio ever'.
